At the end of July, Kim Rixon of Yeovil Cinematheque organised
a demonstration at Shaftesbury Arts Centre of the brand new Projection
Design Cineo Mk 11 digital projector, courtesy of Ken Davies of
Ivojo Multimedia Limited.
The small group who attended the demo were impressed by the new machine whose special features of a dedicated 16:9 aspect and a higher lumens / contrast ratio gave even better results than the company's F1+ model which was set up alongside. However, as Paul Schilling has pointed out the improved performance doesn't come cheap. Ken Davies reports that Ivojo has "negotiated a special rate to film societies of £5000 including (not excluding) VAT. This price is only available to the BFFS!" |

The demonstration also underlined the need when setting up a new digital
projector to work through systematically all the set-up options for picture,
colour, sharpness etc. Only when this process was completed did the
Cineo begin to measure up to an F1+ projector that had been
brought along for the comparison by Brian Winkle of Blandford Forum Film
Society.
This was required because the Arts Centre's F1 was temporarily out of action. Paul reported that the projector had developed a wide white band of light on the right hand side of the picture which turned out to be a fault caused by a malfunction in the light engine. This component has been replaced under warranty and all is well again for the new season at the Arts Centre. |
