If you would like to follow these groups and start your own community cinema venture, we can provide help in a number of ways - advice and expertise on professional equipment, how to book films and DVDs, including the BFFS’s own DVD booking scheme, and publicity material. We are the South West Group of the national body the British Federation of Film Societies – Cinema for All, funded by the UK Film Council. We are enthusiasts, running Film Societies ourselves, who understand the problems and rewards of bringing cinema to parts that other agencies don't reach. We are committed to supporting and extending the reach of community cinema throughout the region and to exploring the new technologies of DVD and BluRay projection.

If you are interested in starting a new film society, the best way to get things rolling is a trial screening. We may be able to help by providing the necessary equipment and expertise for your new venture. In the first instance, contact the BFFS Office for a Start-up Pack and call Brian Clay or Paul Schilling to discuss your ideas. Our national body, BFFS, has an office based in Sheffield. It is supported by national and regional committees of volunteers who run Film Societies themselves. The BFFS provides help through its Office and Regional Groups like the South West including regular Viewing Sessions, start-up packs and equipment loans.
