SOUTH WEST VIEWING RETURNS TO TOPSHAM

Incendies Mao's Last Dancer

We were delighted to return to the Matthews Hall, home of Topsham Film Society and the venue for a memorable Viewing five years ago. Since then, the Hall’s two venues have been refurbished.

The line-up was headed by the Oscar®-nominee in this year’s Foreign Language category, Incendies, a gripping French-Canadian thriller, and Oranges and Sunshine, a moving debut from Ken Loach’s son Jim, starring Emily Watson. Other new World Cinema releases included the powerful Iranian drama A Separation and the poetic Le Quattro Volte from Italian director Michelangelo Frammartino. Finally, there are two neglected English-language titles – Win Win from Thomas McCarthy, the director of film society favourites The Station Agent and The Visitor, and Mao’s Last Dancer, an inspiring story of a Chinese ballet dancer’s journey to international stardom. This last is an exclusive release via our friends at Moviola.
